Eclipse Phase character build overview

I’ve previously written about the pen and paper RPG Eclipse Phase. If the game is unfamiliar to you, here is my short overview in a previous blog post.

As I mentioned in that post, my character’s name is Duncan (named after the perpetually reincarnated weapons master and later Mentat from the Dune series). Duncan is an extropian smuggler sleeved in a Slitheriod morph. Essentially he is robotic worm who loves personal freedom, hates Jovians, and uses deception and persuasion to ply his trade in black market goods.

Being somewhat on the fringes of society Duncan has always carried a bit of a chip on his shoulder, but a recent experience might have driven him over the edge and made him reconsider his motivations somewhat.

In a recent mission, Duncan and his compatriots were required to carry out a clandestine revenge mission for an underworld figure. The mission required deceiving our way into a young socialite's coming of age party, and implant into her memory the knowledge of her mother’s evil deeds. After successfully destroying the young women’s concept of reality, we boosted from the party and secured the information we needed from the underworld figure.

You might think that Duncan would have engaged his empathy program a little bit, for the plight of the young Slyph. That’s not really how Duncan works though. Instead, he’s left angrier than before. The socialite and her little friends have experienced a life very different from his own, even though they are essentially no different than him (Trans-human). They have managed to find a way, due to their wealth and prestige, of being accepted for who they are. Furthermore, they seem to use this wealth and power to protect themselves and their kind, rather than grow acceptance for all trans-humans.

Duncan isn’t always the most rational creature and somehow he has managed to project his disgust at the Slyphs back onto the Jovians, who have hounded him for so long. He has developed an intensified hatred of Jovians, and an extreme paranoia that they are close to finding him (Neural Damage level 1 – Paranoia 10 CP & Neurochemical Imbalance – unreasonable hatred of Jovians 5 CP). His response to this is to become more hard-line and aggressive. He is now essentially going to actively fight against the Jovians, rather than just attempt to evade them [Motivation +Take down the Jovians].

To help him in this quest, he has studied a lot about early Earth resistance movements and warfare (Che Guevara, Clausewitz etc) and has become an expert, in short order, on demolition skills. He has also prepared counter-measures in case his morph is ever captured. In addition, he has purchased superthermite charges, taken on multiple personalities (a copy of a child-like Duncan), purchased a parallel processor +5 COG (specifically to network his two personalities), and purchased neural enhancers (+5 COG).

In total Duncan now has the following:
·         Demolition Skills – 30 skill points unassisted & 40 skill points when parallel processors and neural enhancers in effect.

With Duncan’s pre-existing multi-tasking skills, it’s feasible to foresee a situation where he utilises his demolition skills while taking a second action such as defending against an opponent.
