Eclipse Phase - assault on the black lab continues

We had a fascinating game last Friday.

After being pinned down in the room of death by multiple turrets, we managed to escape down a corridor and find ourselves in a staff room.

Inside there were six armed enemies, who we downed fairly easily. Starting to feel confident again, Slave/Susan and Asif hacked a spindle and used it to retrieve the unconscious bullet-riddled body of Hobo.

While the retrieval was in progress Duncan decided to exact a little revenge by torturing one of the downed but still alive enemies we had just dispatched. This is where things got interesting. Duncan, having grown up off-earth, has never seen a spider n his life. You can imagine his surprise when two human-sized spider arms emerge from a passageway. Stricken with fear (failed the Willpower roll), a woman emerged from the passage with six large spider arms. She gently embraced Duncan’s head.

Immediately, Duncan realised the ‘truth’. The spider queen was his mistress and must be protected at all cost. The men outside  (Asif and Slave) are bad men and must be killed. Turning to face Slave and Asif, who were busy hauling Hobo back to safety, I fired upon Slave with my sniper rifle. Lucky for them, the tacnet had alerted them to my hostility in the nick of time, and Slave was able to avoid the attack. The uncertainty and confusion of my former fireteam were palpable, but they wasted no time attacking the spider queen. All for nought, however, as she was shielded against weapons fire.

The ensuing battle was chaotic and bloody. Duncan, being horribly outgunned, used guile to great impact – tricking the fire team into holstering their weapons on one occasion. Eventually, the team figured out how the Spider Queen’s shield worked and slowly plunged a knife into her neck (ala Dune). Asif double tapped her for good luck.

Once dead, Duncan snapped partially out of his controlled mental state. He’s feeling pretty conflicted, though – he remembers that he loves the Queen still but now also realises he has been played for a fool.

I’m not sure how the fire team is going to treat him from here on in.I have to say I am surprised Duncan survived the encounter at all. In the back of my mind, I was already planning my next morph and how expensive it was going to be. The GM was absolutely brutal and played to my weak willpower perfectly. I created Duncan with this very weakness in mind, to make the game as interesting as possible - so I am actually very pleased with how events unfolded.

With the Spider Queen dead, we have put Hobo in a medical vat we found to heal and will likely continue deeper into the black lab.
